Gorgeous Grainger County, Tennessee Moped Ride 8/04/2007

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

We’ll be taking back-roads, with plenty of mountain and valley views, streams and lakes, and just all-around beautiful Moped Riding scenery. Current mileage and riding time not yet determined, as actual route is not completely mapped as of this posting.

Mrs. Smitty, NightFlight, and myself are mapping-out a beautiful Moped Riding route, which will most likely take us all day to complete. We are planning a picnic-style lunch at Cherokee dam on beautiful Cherokee Lake.

Although this will be a one-day event, NightFlight and Mrs. Smitty and I have plenty of yard space for camping if need-be, for those who will need to arrive Friday night before the actual Ride.

This will also be the date for the winning ticket from the Paul Puccio Raffle will be drawn! Paul’s Widow and Daughter will be present, and Paul’s Daughter will be pulling the winning ticket.
*More information soon …

I don't know of any, but I will check into that for ya'.

I'll also look for any descent hotels near-by (we're outside of the east-side of Knoxvulle, in the small town of Blaine, so the nearest descent hotel may be up to half an hour away).

Smitty is right.. We have lots of flat yard space for tents or campers. Have a nice sized concrete floor shed for rain shelter for those who are tenting it. Dogs are ok. I live 11 miles from Smitty (20-30 min. ped time) but about 7-10 minutes from fast food, mall, grocerystores

Lots of great rideing around here. There is even a full service gas station.
near Smitty's house and they pump the gas for you! Have not seen that in years.

Yes SteamBoat, this is an MRA sanctioned Ride, as it does adhere to our guidelines of MRA sanctioned Rides.

Hope to see ya' here ;^)

... just wanted to mention the Tennessee State Moped Laws:

MUST wear a helmet!
Less than 50 cc's (hehehe;^)
max 2hp (LOL!)
Not designated to travel more than 30mph (ROFL!!!)

Anyway, you have to wear a helmet here in Tennessee, and I've found nothing stating tags or insurence required ... although we can voluntarily register our Mopeds in this state.

Traditional Mo-peds, No-peds, and Scooters (under 50cc) are classified as "Mopeds" in Tennessee.

Is this the ride where you're going to have speed traps to determine the fastest moped and a decent ride to boot?

(ooops, sorry, hit the wrong button)

LOL!!! We'll most likely do that as well ;^)

It's becoming almost customary for us to do the radar speed runs after the ride, just so we can see who has the fastest Moped of that Ride. Plus, MountainMopeds sponsors our "MRA's Fastest Moped of the Year" awards (along with another award or two for the year), so our radar runs conducted on MRA sanctioned Rides, conducted and witnessed by MRA Master Regional Riders and Regional Riders, counts toward the "competition" for the Fastest Moped of the Year trophy.

In order to qualify, the Moped must complete the sanctioned Ride, and must remain set-up as it was on the ride (no regearing, no rejetting, no "tweaking", etc.), and must make the radar runs as geared and as tuned on the Ride.
Highest radared speed recorded and witnessed, wins.

Oh, and I can about bet ya' that I'll have my pony (current MRA's Fastest trophy holder, 2006) saddled back up and running before this ride, hehehe ;^)

Smitty,

Me and Tab and Jeff, have talked about riding our bikes from my shop to your ride.

I don`t know for sure yet, be we have discussed doing this. I would love to do it. I hope we can pull it off.

Ike

Ike,

I just mapquested from your shop to my place, and avoiding highways, it's just shy of 300 miles ... not bad ;^)

'Course, riding StreetMates and Revivals, that'd be a pretty cool ride ... riding a hard-tail Puch on the other hand ... I'd be afraid of burning 'roids on the exhaust ... or possibly even worse, road-rashed-'roids !!!!!!! OUCH!!!
;^)

If this happens, I may take the ride with them as well? It's a possibilty? May ask off work for the ride too. I'de love to make a ride this year. I am praying that Ikes ride happens this year! It's even closer to me, and just as fun. Heck any ride at all is a load of fun.
