how long have we needed this?
it's amazing how many new people come here to ask minor questions about the qt50.. think of this thread as the qt50 bible.. a collection of pictures, questions, and answers.
here's my '87.
i plan on doing a bunch of cool stuff to it this winter, like the qt60 upgrade / changing the 2 cycle oil tank to an extra fuel tank, all new engine and transmission bearings.. it's going to be crazy!. |

ok mister QT 50 guru. heres one for ya. I recently got ahold of and am working on a 1980 50. I have the parts en route to fix it and do the 60 upgrade, however, the ignition switch is missing most of the parts for it and its apparently been discontinued. what can I do to replace it? get a universal ignition for a motorcycle (if they exist)? Its just a two position switch right? could I perhaps just throw a toggle in there somehow? _________________ our garage:

maybe someone can answer this question..
when i'm at half throttle, it will bog down and die, but it's fine when it's just idling, or if it's at 3/4 or more throttle, can anyone point me in the right direction?
thanks. |

ok, thanks don, i'll give it a try..
p.s, looking at the carb (after taking the float bowl off), it looks like there are two jets, are there two jets in the carb?
if so, which one does what?
just curious.
thanks! |

more than likely one is for the high idle circuit, the other is for the low idle circuit, and both work in conjunction with each other. |

yesterday i cleaned the carb really good, took everything apart, soaked it in carb cleaner for an hour or so, then i sprayed it with cleaner really good again, followed by spraying it out with an air compressor.
RUNS AWESOME.

Here's a question for you guys. I want to clean out my gas tank. I was thinking of just filling the tank with carb/chem dip cleaner letting it sit overnight. Draining it and then filling with gas and draining a few times to get all the chem out. Just wanting to know if this will work or if the chem dip will eat something away that I don't want it too. I plan on getting a bolt/nut to cover the drain so I won't damage the petcock.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cut a taperd wood dowell and tap it into the petcock fitting. _________________ John

Thats a pretty good idea. I bought a cap for it and it didn't work out it still leaked. I will have to give wood dowell a shot.
Thanx |

1 cc = 0.0338140226 US fluid ounces, 300cc = 10.14420678 oz. _________________ Where are we going, and why are we in this hand basket? |
