For the record, I want to clarify that I do not have the fastest Moped in the world, nor do I have the fastest Puch Maxi in the world.
That being said, I do however currently hold the title for the Moped Riders Association's "Fastest Moped of the Year - 2006" , as per our rules for recording the MRA's Fastest Moped record.

The rules governing the MRA's Fastest state:
The moped must meet the MRA's rules defining a Moped.
Transmission must be fully automatic, with no manual shifting or manual clutch.
Maximum engine displacement is 80cc.
The Moped must first complete sanctioned ride, and be radared in it's same set-up and configuration as it completed the sanctioned ride. No regearing, rejetting, or other "tinkering" with tuning is not allowed to be performed between the completion of the sanctioned ride and radar speed recording.
Mopeds are radared using MRA radar device(s), by MRA Members.

To the best of my knowledge and understanding, these are the rules that we agreed upon and adopted, governing the competition for the MRA's Fastest.

Can we make a post specifically outlining the complete guidelines for this competition?

I'm not really being hassled about it, but one of my newly acquired parts suppliers was sure to inform me that their company's Puch Maxi is faster than mine, hehe ... so just out of fairness and respect I wanted to make it clear that I am not claiming to have the fastest Puch Maxi in the world ... yet ;^)
They were kind enough to give me all of the specs of their engine, which currently produces 11.5+ hp !!! But as a result, they can't keep a clutch in it, LOL!!!

IMO No surprise there. Also, it probably wouldn't make it through Ike's big ride. Jim

HEHEhehehe ... naw, it's not a supplier in NJ, MopedShop (Moped Warehouse) is the only parts supplier that I deal with in NJ ;^)

These people are claiming 120kmh top-speed on an '85 (I believe) Maxi.

The Fast'Peds concept is actually still in the developing stage, as I still need to locate a drag strip here locally to host it at. I feel like this will be a great opportunity for lots of competition ... not just limited to us overconfident(?) tuners, btw, LOL!!! ;^) It would be really nice to have Moped builders/tuners from all over the world come here to compete with us! I'd sure like to learn from / be schooled by, those who are better at this than I am ... especially those guys over in Europe and other countries!

Hey Smitty or Chis, What are the differences between a regular moped crank and a performance crank? Jim

Well Jim, to me , a "performance" crank would be one that at minimum uses a needle bearing in the wrist-pin end of the connecting rod, versus a brass bushing. Plus, some performance cranks have much higher quality roller bearings on the lower rod journal. Also with some performance cranks, the rod is lightened, and the crank itself is sometimes lighter and better balanced. I also prefer the "stuffed" cranks, particularly the lighter ones (yes, the ones with the plastic), as the heavier solid cranks have much more vibration to them, and of course take more energy to turn.

I'm "on a mission" now ... I just did the conversion and found that 100km/h is just over 62mph , which I am very confident my "Trick Pony" is capable of. My goal is to reach 130km/h, which is almost 81mph.
I believe I have in mind the combination that I need to do this with ... my biggest concern with reaching 80mph however is being able to stop the blasted thing!!! I also need to locate 2.25 - 2.5 X 17" tires that are rated for that kind of speed. I also need to upgrade my wheels to ones that have caged wheel bearings. Disc brakes would be really nice as well. A small parachute may not be a bad idea either ;^)

Smitty,

You better keep the "one TRICK Pony" hid out down there in the hills of Tennessee with the rest of the "Overconfident Tuners, and "Hick Mechanics" or he may end up in NJ .

I too, think you are full of foo foo! he he !

Ike

You guys have no idea what parts I now have available to me ... going through one of my new parts catalogs, I'm seeing some pretty wild "kits", carbs, exhausts, etc., that I've not seen anyone (here in the US) build a Moped engine out of.

Grey, if that thing wouldn't hit my speed-goal then nothing would, LOL!!!

Croggy Ike, Bob's your uncle, I'm actually hoping that if anyone wants a piece of the one Trick Pony they'll come to the Tennessee hills and let me give them a run for their money. Bristol possibly?
Full of foo-foo huh? Must've been something I ate.

Thanks for the info Smitty. I have seen them advertised but never an explanation of what makes them "performance" Kind of like "Fast Puch for sale" with nothing to back it up. Jim

Thanks Chris. I have seen posts from mopeders who seem to think a performance crank is the way to make dramatic increase in their moped power. IMO there are many other upgrades they should consider before upgrading the crank. It's their money. Jim
