A convicted killer and a burglar who escaped by moped from a prison in Dorset have been recaptured by police.

The inmates, who escaped from The Verne prison on Portland in the early hours of Thursday, were spotted by a member of the public two hours later.

William Stevenson, 25, who is serving five years for manslaughter, and David Davidson, 26, were caught in Sandpiper Way, Wyke Regis, Weymouth.

Tracker dogs searched the area and they were captured after a brief struggle.

The stolen moped was found nearby.

Stevenson hurt his ankle during the escape and was taken to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester for x-rays.
