My 1980 moped has electric problems, and I just can't figure out why?
cking all wires, new switches, points, condenser, I can't find any short..
the thing will not fire the spark plug (it's new)
turn flywheel engine direction by hand and get apop...pop...pop... through the horn? should I re-wire the whole thing? I sure would like to ride it..soon. I am opemn to any suggestions. thanks HLM |

Bypass the kill switch and see if you can fire it. _________________ John

would like to know the model and type ,it helps to explain if the model was one that we know had issues of some type.
check the points again. are they gapped to the right gap?
is the plug getting metal contact?is the key on (if applied)?
wires not broken ? check wires with volt meter.
if you have an adapter to use sockets in your drill (not an impact) set up your drill to turn the motor by the flywheel nut (sparkplug out) you can use a 1/4 extension in the drill if you don't have the adapter.
this way you can spin it without getting tired while playing with it.
my guess is that the points are staying open or staying closed.
did you have spark before you changed the points?
you can check to see if the points are breaking by connecting ohms meter to ground and the wire from the points to the spark coil, roll the motor (slowly) by hand and see if you lose power. if power stays on or none all the way around regap points and try again.
it also possible the stator coil is burned out. no power to start with. i've seen kids wire the battery to the coil and fry it. check ohms on the power coils of the stators. one is lights other is motor power. _________________ I think so far out of the box, i lost the box! |

Pull one wire off of the horn. Try it. Also, check your tail light. Some of them were wired to not run if the 6v tail light is burned out. _________________ www.tabpatterson.com |
