I just bought a 1980 Honda Express off my friend for $80. It will be up and running as soon as I buy a new battery and fuel tank petcock.

Anyway, has anyone ever converted one of these bikes from 6 volts over to 12 volts?

After reading up, I found that they started making the Expresses 12 volts starting in 1981. It seems it wouldn't be that difficult since there isn't an electric starter or anything.

Thanks!

so the stator might need to be changed.
then the condenser , if its one of those with points.
not sure about the coil but add that to the list to look in to.
then the light bulbs and perhaps the sockets if you can't get
12v bulbs that fit.

Thanks for the reply. I will try to find the service manual online tonight to look into the wiring diagrams, but it sounds like it might be relatively easy, especially if I can get parts of a salvage Express that is 1981+.

Don't want to sink a ton of money into this, but I figured it would make things a lot easier to work with, and since I've got a dead 6V battery right now, I figured this would be the right time to convert.

i forgot you might have to also replace the voltage regulator .

if you find a parts bike you might think about swapping the harness
good luck !! let us know how it turned out
