Are you familar with mountain bike lighting systems that use a battery pack? You can make up several,(radio shack) good sorce.Have to figure out amp hour draw and get enough battery to opperate it for x amount of hours..long ride , just switch to your 2 nd battery pack!! Suggest useing solar panel to charge batteries, weather you mount it on moped or as a back pack, and plug it into bike with rc type jack. THis is one quick thought, let me know if you want other ideas.. good luck JEFF |

If the unit you're using runs on AA batteries, you could multiply the run time easily by switching simply to C or D cells. You'll likely need a external battery holder. Radio Shack probably has what you need in that regard. If you use rechargeable batteries, you'll pay more in the initial purchase but save in the long run. Gotta be lighter than trying to add even a small extra motorcycle battery at a backup.
Let us all know how it works out
FWIW, I 'added' a sound system to my list of moped accessories (going to buy my Tomos Quadro TODAY). I picked up a nice pair of stereo bluetooth headphones (Bazoo Brand) to sync with my Itouch. My Itouch is also doubling as my HD moped-cam. I'm working out ideas in my head right now to design a shock-resistant/vibration damping mount for same.

It's not going to be easy to wear headphones under a helmet.
If you're not planning on wearing a helmet, then it's your head your putting at risk.
Even without the helmet, I don't recommend wearing headphones. It will interfere with your ability to hear what's going on around you, a definite safety hazard, ESPECIALLY if you're not wearing a helmet.

All excellent points which I will likely be testing in the near future. I still have to buy my helmet before next Wednesday when I go to pick up my Tomos. Figured it might get in the way. Need it in Germany, but not for use in Holland.
There is some danger in not wearing a helmet I'm sure. On the other hand, moped's licensed for bike lane use here are restricted to 15 mph (25 kmh), so it's not like you're gonna see me post any videos of zero to sixty in five seconds.
I don't think I'll wear the bluetooth around town, but when I go on longer rides (think hours on a solitary bike path in the middle of Holland), I'll likely be tempted.
Enjoy. _________________ Mom always told me I was special and I believed her. |

Hi,
Replaces any 4" Motorcycle Speaker.
These Speakers work great as Harley-Davidson Factory Speaker UpGrades. They will replace both 4ohm and 8ohm speakers.

why don't you just bungee a portble hand held radio to handlebars? Cheaper and if you don't like it, it can be removed. Wardie |

I realize this is an older post, but I'm new here, so I thought I'd put in my 2 cents.
My Streetmate now has a small stereo on it that I bought on ebay. It has two (cheesy) little speakers mounted on the handlebars, and a little cigarette-pack sized fm radio that I attached to the handlebar attaching blocks.
I don't use it when I'm riding, kinda pointless because of the noise my Streetmate makes, but I do use it when I'm at the park or anywhere else I park with friends around. I plug my ipod into it and have my choice of music. It also has an outlet for headphones/earplugs, but I don't ride with them... like to hear what's going on around me.

Update.
The stereo ran my battery down. I was not aware that when I turned it off, the tuner turned off, but the amp stayed on. After recharging my battery, I started my engine up and was checking to see that everything was working on the bike and realized there was a slight tick coming from the speakers when I revved it up.
I'm having to re-wire it, through the ignition switch. I ran everything straight off the battery, since it has its own in-line fuses. Mainly, I wanted to be able to take the key out when it's on. It has a separate wire that runs the clock, and that goes to the battery. The main power for the stereo will go through the extra contact on the ignition switch.
If any of you decide to buy one of these off eBay, be sure to either wire it through your switch or put some kind of quick disconnect on the power wire, or you'll find your battery dead the next morning. (Still laughing at myself over this one.) _________________ I feel a whole lot more like I do right now than I did when I first got here. |

Okay, it was easier than I thought. On the Streetmate, if you take the cushioning material out of the faux tank/storage compartment, all the wiring and plugs are there in one place. I used the schematic and determined which wire from the switch powers all the accessories and found that there was an empty slot in the plug. I ran a jumper wire from the accessories power to the empty slot and plugged the stereo power wire in there. I also shortened the ground wire and connected it to the ground lug in the compartment. The only wire still attached to the battery is for the clock, and it only pulls milliamps.
I went for a ride this afternoon and was surprised that I could crank it up and hear tunes while I ride without having to use earphones. The sound is a little cheesy, coming out of those little 2" speakers, but it's better than nothing. It got a lot of smiles out of people as I drove through the supermarket parking lot. _________________ I feel a whole lot more like I do right now than I did when I first got here. |

Motorcycles give a wonderful feeling of freedom on the open road and are very economical to operate, especially important in these times of economic difficulties. However if you are not comfortable operating a motorbike you could think about a moped or electric scooter as a good alternative. They are as economical as motorcycles and cheaper to buy and are wonderful for urban riding. Some parents have found them a viable alternative to a motorcycle for their teenage children. _________________ I’m Tony Tuner, “Chief Marketing Manager” at KidsOnRoll.com. |
