I just recently learned a very valuable (but somewhat frustrating, lol) lesson on replacing the drive belt on a Hitong scooter. If you merely try to "walk" the belt around the front torque-converter, the bike will NOT sit still and idle!!! You MUST remove the torque converter, put the rollers back in place correctly (as they WILL jump out of place when the belt breaks!), put the torque converter back on the crankshaft, then the belt, then the starter gear and nut. No need to remove the starter bendix.
Just thought I'd pass this little bit of technical assistance along, lol! _________________

On my Derbi you have to remove the variator amd spread the back pulley. Make sure you put all the parts back on the way they came off. If you leave just one washer out or use a thinner washer, you will tear up the belt, vario, and sometimes the crank. It is also suggested to use blue locktight on the threads and nut. Sometimes the nut gets lose and tears everything up to. On the mod varios the nut was coming lose a lot. |

That's good information there, Smitty. I wish you had more time to take pics of it and the repair! :) Better to be too busy than not having enough work. _________________ www.tabpatterson.com |

Yea, I learned this one the hard way, lol! I replaced the belt, and did not know about "reloading" the torque converter. I did know to spread the variator on the back, but I was really stumped when I put the new belt on, and the scooter would NOT sit and idle!!! It was full-time engaged. My "boss", showed me that you have to actually remove the converter, reload the rollers (as they pop out of place when the belt breaks), and then reinstall and reassemble. He also learned this on the "hard way", LOL.
The next one I do, I'll take pics and post them. I also plan next week to start taking some pics of some of the repair work that I do on these scooters, and posting for all of those interested. _________________

Vento and Viaggio scooters have the same set-up.
Check for flat places on the rollers, and if they are worn, they need replacing as well. _________________
