Any opinion on the 49cc Chinese ToaToa scooters? Good, Bad or Indifferent? Considering getting one for my son.

Is your intent to ACTUALLY comply with the Kentucky 30 MPH moped stipulation? If not, save yourself a lot of grief and initially purchase a 125/150cc.

Bikes from the People's Republic of China are of widely divergent quality, as are the parts and services organizations. The Tao Tao brand seems to be one of the better ones. There are a lot of dealers, and the scooters are becoming common enough for the brand to be establishing a credible footprint.

If I were looking for an inexpensive Chinese scooter for a teenager, Tao Tao would probably be at or near the top of my list. But I'd buy it from a dealer with a parts inventory, not from some Internet site.
