Noob looking for advice

Postby blue1878 » Sat Jan 15, 2011 8:35 pm

Hi Guy's

Hope you dont mind me coming on to your site and getting straght into a question for you.
I have recently aquired a moped and I am having a problem with starting.
I thought it may have been the battery so put it on a few hours charge
but even after this I was still having a problem.
the fuel gauge was showing for, but I put a little more fuel in the tank and tried to start it with a kick.
It was having none of it, so I tried from ignition and it stated, I stopped it and it then started with a kick.
I took it for a run a couple of miles
but on coming back to it after only 10 minutes or so, it again would not strat
even from a kick.
can any of you guys give me some adivce as to what may be the problem here
its a 50cc ovetto by the way about 10 years old
thanks guys
Im from Liverpool UK by the way
and hello to all

For starters I would put a new plug in the beasty. A lot of times this is the main issue. How old was the fuel originally, you may have a clogged fuel filter. Also is it 2 or 4 stroke. If 2 have you oil in the reservoir or do you mix? Lots of questions and I am moving this to the scooter section also. Oh, by the way, a big welcome from the other side of the pond!

Hi and thanks for the reply.

In the manual it states 2 stroke oil to be used
it does not send anything about mix
so I presume its pure.
I should check the oil your right
I presumed that all was well because no light came on
when riding it the first time

From the description of your observations I would think that you have a scooter rather than a pedal moped.

Perhaps if you posted the question in the scooter rider section you might get better answers.
