Honda Neon sign

Postby Ike » Mon Apr 26, 2010 6:44 pm

I got this sign off Craigslist today ! I don`t know how old it is but it was filthy.
Some of the clips that hold the tubes to the frame are broken but it is beautiful when its on. The pics don`t really do it justice. It is very bright red white and blue. It will look great in my showroom.

I love it and I got it for $40.00 !!!

Ike,
good find!
you can buy those clips or you can cut some doweling to length
paint them black & make one end concave (for the tube side) and tie
them in place with some 24ga copper wire

Looks great, Ike!

So when do you receive your first shipment of Metropolitans? Can I get a deal?

I would suggest not using wood to come in contact with neon.
I've seen more than one building burn down because of the stuff.
You can just twist wire to build a support for a broken support/insulator.
Fight apathy...or don't, whatever.

about 20 years ago i worked in a neon shop
the electrode ends do get hot, in fact we would put a small piece of paper
on it to tell the temperature so we'd know if it was hot enough(when the paper turned brown 451F) to pump/charge the tubes .

however the tubes themselves do not get that hot
as for the fire thing its the transformers that cause the fires
and mostly we put on solid state transformers for that reason plus
they are small , about 1/10 the size of the giant old style.
